This beautiful Dichroic pendant is made by layering dichroic glass to create intricate patterns. Prismatic tones come to life when I layer gorgeous pieces of Dichroic glass creating a dazzling effect that adds iridescence to this pendant.

So what is dichroic glass?

Dichroic (pronounced “dye-crow-ick”) glass, commonly called dichro for short, literally means “two colored.” It is derived from the Greek words “di” for two, and “chroma” for color. It was thus named because of its fantastic multicolored and reflective properties. When you look at this glass, it appears to have more than one color at the same time, especially when viewed with different lighting.

Dichroic Glass is a multi layer coating placed on glass by using a highly technical vacuum deposition process. Quartz Crystal and Metal Oxides are Vaporized with an electron beam gun in an airless vacuum chamber and the vapor then floats upward and attaches then condenses on the surface of the glass in the form of a crystal structure.The main characteristic of Dichroic Glass is that it has a transmitted color and a completely different reflective color. Furthermore, these two colors shift depending on angle of view. With the play of light together with its vibrant color, Dichroic Glass is a prime tool I used to add interest to my work.
