“Oceana” is a small fused glass drop out vessel made by artist Candace L Kahn.
Beautiful reactive glasses were chosen for this drop vessel, creating various size droplets resting on a gorgeous sea of turquoise.
Several layers of glass are first fused together at temperatures ranging up to 1500 degrees. This kiln formed glass is then placed on a ceramic ring within the kiln held above the kiln shelf by what is known as kiln furniture. The kiln is set to approximately 1575 degrees and over a period of up to 15 hours the glass will drop through the mold to form the vessel. The rim of the vessel is then removed and the remaining vessel is then cold worked to achieve a smooth delicate surface.
